Peter Hodkinson - International Athlete and Orienteer

“Kim has been my physio for over 10 years (although we don’t actually meet that often) and her treatment and guidance has always been outstanding. As an international runner and orienteer, I'm often training and racing overseas - but this hasn't stopped Kim from being able to diagnose injuries and advise me on rehabilitation remotely.

When a niggle or injury occurs, I try to contact Kim straight away. I write down what symptoms I'm feeling, how and when it first occurred and what sort of activities trigger the issue. Sometimes, I'll draw with pen around the area and send a photo to demonstrate where I'm feeling pain. We will usually follow this up with a call or video chat to diagnose and discuss it further. She will sometimes ask me to perform a few test exercises while on the phone (e.g. calf raises, hopping etc) to get more information. It's amazing how much she can tell from a quick email and a phone call!

More often than not, Kim will have already diagnosed me and planned a rehab strategy during this first call, and she'll email it through to me. If there are any exercises that I don't understand, she sends useful links to photos and videos online which demonstrate clearly how to do each one. We will then keep in touch over the coming days to check that the injury is recovering as expected, and to confirm my plans for returning to full training and racing.

Despite never having lived in Sheffield, I've found working with Kim remotely an ideal setup for me. I'm certain that Kim's remote consultations have boosted my performance and lengthened my running career.”
